Bharuch, the oldest city of Gujarat is based at the mouth of Narmada River. Having a history of about 8000 years, it's the second oldest city of India. The city has always been prosperous owing to its location on the banks of river Narmada; agriculture and allied commercial activities have progressed well here. The city is reckoned across India and also in overseas market for it's traditional clothing design & art form called Bandhni.

Bharuch has Gujarat's biggest liquid cargo terminal.
Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, which is an educational trust was founded by K. M. Munshi, a Bharuchian and a well known name in Gujarati Literature. He was the 1st Union Minister of Food & Agriculture of independent India and also the driving force behind renovation of Somnath Temple. Omkarnath Thakur from Bharuch, was the first Indian musician to perform in Europe.
